Currently enrolled in the Shelby County Fire Department Firefighter Recruit program
Submit a video by

Video Submissions Guidelines

Submit a video of yourself answering the following questions

1. What attracted you to public service?

2. What sets you apart from other candidates?

3. After the fire academy, what are your plans for furthering your education in fire service and what goals do you have set for yourself in this career?

The video must be at least 3 minutes and doesn’t exceed 5 minutes.
Include your name, email address, and phone number.

Pre Recorded Video Interview Tips for Candidates

1. Record in a noiseless environment with a clear clean background

While recording your video, make sure to follow these tips:

Record in a place that’s quiet and free from distractions
Position your camera at your eye-level
Have adequate lighting in your room
Make sure there is no glare while recording
Switch off your phone or any other devices that might create an ambient noise

2. Relax

While recording the video interview, please keep these things in mind:

Speak slowly and clearly
Pronounce the words loud and clear. Don’t mumble
Answer every question carefully and take time to answer it
Respond in a relaxed and calm manner
Ensure that you are addressing every question correctly.
Enjoy the process of recording your answers, be confident and positive. This has a whole new impact on the video itself
Be natural

3. Practice, practice, and practice

Here are a few things to keep in mind:

Before facing the webcam or phone camera and start recording, practice by talking in front of the mirror
Eye contact is important, so look at the camera directly when talking and not at yourself on the computer screen.
